Despite the possible record sales of the iPhone 5 in the third quarter of the holiday season in America it seems that LG has managed to reach second place in sales of mobile phones bringing Apple to third and final step of the podium, a situation unprecedented since the launch of iPhone 4S.
For the first time Apple is at third spot since the launch of iPhone 4S. In the ranking, however, there are also traditional mobile phones, market segment absolutely not covered by the Cupertino giant, which we know produces only top of the range or high range smartphone.
LG seems to have deprived the second place, occupied primarily with feature phone rather than with Smartphones. In fact, LG has sold 1 million units OF Optimus G smartphone. Small sums of digits when compared to potential 50 million, or more, of the iPhone 5.
“LG Electronics had maintained the runner-up position until the third-quarter of 2011 but fell to third place after Apple’s iPhone 4S hit the market… Market insiders attributed LG Electronics’ sales growth to the popularity of its latest Optimus G handset, with over 1 million units sold across North America.”
Nevertheless, Apple has, to date, 12% of the U.S. market, behind LG with its 13% and a Samsung unstoppable with a generous 33%.
