iOS 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak: What To Do Before You Run It?

Probably Sunday is the day of the release of the first Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 5, iPad mini and fourth generation iPad, as well as for your all iDevices with iOS 6.1. With this article we want to share with you some important “guidelines” to follow to prepare for Jailbreak.

1. Upgrade To iOS 6.1 Before It’s Too Late

Apple usually, shortly after the publication of the untethered jailbreak from hackers, releases iOS updates that do not introduce great news but they are just designed to close the security holes exploited to make the change.

If you still have your iPhone 5 on version 6.0.2, you should upgrade to the latest version: no one knows for sure when Cupertino will release a hypothetical iOS 6.1.1 and even when it does, you will have a few days to carry out any repairs/upgrades to iOS 6.1.

After this short period of time, Apple will close the digital signature of this firmware, which means that if you have not saved the SHSH files using TinyUmbrella, it will be impossible to restore  without upgrading to the latest version no longer compatible with Jailbreak.

You can download iOS 6.1 from the direct links.

2. Save SHSH File Of iOS 6.1

SHSH file corresponds to the signature of a particular version of iOS and serves to reset without updating, so if we need to recover after the release of an update “Anti-” Jailbreak “by Apple, we can avoid update.

For each public release of a new firmware, it is a good idea to save the SHSH file. In some cases in the past thanks to these certificates we could also use it to downgrade, but it is currently a very remote possibility.

Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Download TinyUmbrella 5.11.00 b for Windows or OSX directly from these links: [ WIN ] [ OSX ]
  2. Connect your device with your Mac or PC
  3. Go to the Advanced tab and check the option Overwrite existing SHSH files on “Save SHSH
  4. Finally, you can proceed by clicking on Save SHSH.

3. Make a Backup Of Your Data

It is always strongly recommended to make a backup of all data on your device, with the advent of iCloud do not think many more to the backup, in these cases it is always better to have a backup on your computer, and considering that the backup no longer includes the installation file of the application, we recommend that you connect the device to your computer and perform a sync from iTunes.

iOS 6.1 jailbreak not support following devices:

  • iPhone 2G
  • iPhone 3G
  • iPod Touch 1G
  • iPod touch 2G
  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPad 1
  • Apple TV 3

Why would I *need* to install 6.1? Wouldn’t it be enough to use redsn0w and the 6.1 IPSW and ask it to request the SHSH blobs from apple?
