You may often hear that you must save your SHSH blobs, especially when you are going to jailbreak your iPhone. This is the best practice indeed. Blobs are necessary files and are needed when you want to downgrade to previous iOS version. For instance, if you would have jailbreak your device for iOS 6.1, and Apple release next version of firmware, you must have already saved your SHSH blobs, otherwise you won’t be able to downgrade. If you do not save these files for a specific period of time, there are high chances that you could not downgrade your device ever.
Always be proactive in saving SHSH files, because Apple closes its firmware signing quickly. If you have not saved your SHSH blobs yet, don’t get disappointed, you can still do it. You just have to follow the procedure we are describing in this article. For you convenience, we have divided the procedure in simple and easy to understand steps. So, be quick and save your SHSH blobs, before it’s too late.
Step 1: To perform the procedure you have to download Tiny Umbrella for the operating system you use. We are writing this tutorial using Mac, but if you are using Windows, or Linux, the same steps and procedure has to be followed.
Step 2: When you are done with downloading Tiny Umbrella, save it on your desktop. Now open the app by clicking on the icon. It may take few seconds to open.
Step 3: Now connect your device that can run iOS 6.1 (which could be an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch). Remember you must save SHSH blobs for every device you own with iOS 6.1.
Step 4: In Tiny Umbrella, select your device that is visible on the upper right hand corner, under connected devices.
Step 5: Now, you have to uncheck “Save all Available SHSH”, and “Request SHSH from Cydia”. These options can be found, when you click the advance tab.
Step 6: Change the SHSH directory in to SHSH folder. This would help you an easy access to our SHSH blobs.
Step 7: You can check the log tab to see the status of your attempt.
Step 8: At this step, you are going to save your SHSH blobs. All you have to do is to click Save SHSH, and Tiny Umbrella would start saving SHSH blobs. This can be done for iOS 6.1 (or whatever is the latest firmware released, and allowed by Apple for signing). Save these files to the directory you have chosen in step 6. If your attempt would be a success, a message will appear on the screen saying, “SHSH Successfully Saved”.
Step 9: To check the saved files, click on the folder you created in step 6. Make it sure that you have saved the files labeled with the correct name of device and the firmware.
When Apple would stop signing iOS 6.1, you can follow these simple steps to save SHSH blobs for the new firmware. This article sheds light only to save the current firmware’s blobs. If you want to retrieve blobs you have saved previously for any reason, you should not have unchecked the options we have asked you to do in Step 5.
We recommend you to backup your SHSH blobs folder to something like Dropbox. It will be easy for you to find and use them in future. We hope that you’ll find this article helpful. Please share it with others, so they can get benefit too.
