After more than an year of examination, Apple was awarded the rights of Siri microphone icon on the iPhone and iPad. The voice assistant was introduced in 2011 for the first time on the iPhone 4S, although it is still in beta.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted Apple a patent design that shows a microphone surrounded by a circle. The designer of Apple, Freddy Anzures and UI designer Alessandro Francesco Sabatelli are credited as the inventors of the icon, with which the patent application was filed on October 4, 2011, on the same day that Siri was presented with the iPhone 4S. The design itself reminds microphones manufactured by RCA in 1940, which were subsequently copied by various manufacturers of audio devices such as Corona.

Although it is still technically a beta, Siri is one of the most popular speech recognition on a mobile device. Firstly debuted as the main feature of the new iPhone 4S, and is now available on the iPhone 5, iPad third and fourth generation, iPad mini and fifth-generation iPod Touch. Recently General Motors has announced Siri integration in its vehicles, surely this function is of fundamental importance for the Cupertino Company, which will surely improve with time.
